Stockholm Public Transport (SL)

SL will take you anyplace you want to go in Stockholm County. For instance, you can go from Norrtälje in the north to the archipelago in the east. You can travel with both commuter trains, city buses, county buses, the Metro and other rail-bound lines (such as tvärbanan, roslagsbanan and saltsjöbanan).

On SL:s website you can find more information about ticket prices and how to buy tickets. If you are younger than 20 or older than 65, you receive a discount on all your SL tickets.

Children under the age of 7 travels for free together with an adult.

You may be subject to a fine if you do not have a valid ticket.

Stockholm’s metro stations have lots of paintings and sculptures. Guided art tours are conducted every once in a while.

Cars

Vehicles that are registered in Sweden and that enter and leave Stockholm City Centre on weekdays are subject to a congestion tax. The size of the tax depends on the time of day.

Vehicles are automatically registered at control points. The Swedish Transport Agency sends a payment slip to the owner at the end of the month.


SJ

Trains depart from Stockholm Central Station to other places in Sweden. Trains also departs to Norway, Denmark and Germany.  On some trains it is also possible to get on or off the train in other parts of the county, such as Sundbyberg and Flemingsberg. .

 


Private bus companies

Private bus companies have routes to other places in Sweden and abroad. Most buses leaving from Stockholm county depart from Cityterminalen in Stockholm City Centre.

 


Airports

Stockholm-Arlanda International Airport and Stockholm-Bromma Airport are located closest to the city.
