The text below is the screenplay to the film about civic orientation that you can find on the front page of this web page.

Hello to all of you who have recently arrived in Sweden!

Being a newcomer in a country entails great changes. Things in Sweden do not perhaps work as you are accustomed to.

What should you do to get accommodation for example?
How does Swedish schooling work?
What’s it like forming a family in Sweden?

In order to make it easier for you to integrate into Swedish society and gradually enter the job market, there is a course in civic orientation.

You can learn about values and traditions in Sweden on this course.

You’ll learn about your rights and obligations, how Swedish democracy works and how society is organised.

The course is completely free. You study in your native language together with course leaders and classmates who speak the same language as you.

“It was great that I was able to attend the course in my native language which is English, and we got the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the topics that the course is built around.”

If you have recently arrived in Sweden, are aged between 18 and 64 years and are registered in the introduction program at the Swedish Public Employment Service, you are entitled to attend the civic orientation course.

Even certain family members of immigrants can study on the course.

“I learned lots of things, for example when I can vote and how healthcare works. Civic orientation helped me to better understand Sweden so that I can feel more at home here.”

Read more about the course and how to register at nyistockholm.se. The website is available in several languages!

You are welcome to learn more about Swedish society!
